Odd Socks Day for Mental Health

2020 has been a hell of a year and it's taken a toll on mental health for many of us.

Even in good times, 1 in 5 Australians aged 16-85 experience mental ill-health in any year. Yet stigma is the main reason why people hesitate to seek help. At Mod we want to contribute to a world where people feel able to raise mental health issues as openly as physical injury or illness.

The annual national Odd Socks Day campaign is a lighthearted way to help stomp out stigma by sharing the message that anyone can have an odd day. Throughout October we can all help share the message via social media, using the hashtag #OSD2020. Or wear odd socks to help start a conversation about mental health with friends and colleagues. Or even raise some funds for mental health support programs.

If you're concerned about someone but not sure how to start the conversation, try these tips. If you're struggling, give yourself some time to use these proven tips for good mental health, make use of available resources, or access 24/7 emergency support.

Odd Socks Day aligns with Australia's National Mental Health Month and the World Health Organisation's World Mental Health Day.
