Power of 1 Remixed at Enlighten Festival

This weekend Michela will perform a live audiovisual show, Power of 1 Remixed for Canberra's Enlighten Festival, featuring visitor contributions from the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House.

Her performance follows on from Mod's landmark exhibition, Power of 1 launched September 2014, of which a core part was Michela's media art installation, The Conversation. For Enlighten Michela will revisit and remix user-generated content captured by The Conversation

Michela says "Looking through six months worth of museum visitor interactions, it's been fascinating to see how many people took up the invitation to give their two cents on our democracy. People clearly want their voice to be heard - including when they're too young to vote."

Power of 1 includes a physical exhibition, art installations, a national baseline survey, live online interactive activities, tangible data visualisation, social media and good old fashioned debate to create a unique interactive experience. The Conversation, spanning several rooms of the heritage listed building, ellicits text, imagery, sound and video from visitors. The Power of 1 exhibition invites visitors to join a conversation, in ways reflecting different generations, around improving Australian democracy.

In the Builders Room, hand write a note that is then scanned by a hidden camera. In the Boomers Room, record an audio voxpop. In the Gen X Room, "tweet" from a 1980s Commodore 64 computer. In the Gen Y room, record a video selfie from one of 12 hanging iPods.

Power of 1 Remixed performances are on Friday 6th March and Saturday 7th March at 7pm, 8pm, 9pm and 10pm, at the Museum of Australian Democracy, Old Parliament House.
