Mod is currently working on a satirical deep fake project (watch this space) and firmly front of mind are issues canvassed at last years Vivid Ideas event, Love/Machine.
Hurtling toward the day when anyone with a smart device can utilise Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Deep Learning to create 'digital humans' that are visually indistinguishable from real people, Deep Fakes and generative adversarial networks (GANs), it's important to foster public discussion of both benefits and ethical challenges. Michela Ledwidge shared the stage with Hao Li (Pinscreen and the University of Southern California), Mike Seymour (Motus Lab), Sandra Peter (Sydney Business Insights) and Kai Riemer (The University of Sydney).
Along with demonstrations and discussion, there was fantastic engagement and participation from the mostly lay audience, with some challenging and insightful questions raised.
When we can create any image we desire, or put words into the mouths of public figures saying things they've never said, there's no doubt it will change our relationships with each other and our interactions within wider society. It may even change us.
Love/Machine was hosted by Sydney Business Insights.
