To recognise NAIDOC Week 2020, the App Store selected Indigemoji as a front page featured app.
The Indigemoji app and website provides 90 emojis, celebrating Arrenrnte language and culture, for everyone to use and share. The emojis were created on Arrernte country in Central Australia by hundreds of young people and senior Arrernte cultural advisors. It has had over 40,000 downloads and has been recognised internationally as a Webby Awards Honoree in the Public Service & Activism category and has received a Prix Ars Electronica Honourable Mention in the Digital Communities category.
This Arrernte-led project is supported by a diverse team of Indigenous and non-Indigenous arts workers, designers, developers and technologists, of which Mod is proud to be part. We were pleased to be able to integrate the Arrernte language voice files, already featured on the Indigemoji web site, into the app in time for NAIDOC Week.
NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and is celebrated by Australians from all walks of life. There are many events that everyone can join in, held across Australia and online. To find out more about NAIDOC Week and how to get involved visit naidoc.org.au
